Where one might see a diver in the open? (5,5)
I believe the answer is:
above board
'in the open?' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'where one might see a diver' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'one' could be 'a' (a thing is one thing) and 'a' is located in the answer.
'see' could be 'v' (short for 'vide', Latin meaning 'see elsewhere') and 'v' is found in the answer.
'a' is present in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for above board that I've seen before include "without being underhand" , "Fairly and squarely" , "Surfer's position should be this" , "Entirely honest" , "Legal" .)
