I believe the answer is:

mallet

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'whisky adulterated by the french? with this one' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot see how one could define the other.

'get hammered' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'get' could be 'let' (letting is a kind of getting) and 'let' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'mal' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'may' acts as a link.
