Who may be retrying a tale requiring different placement? (8,5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

literary agent

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'different placement?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't understand how one could define the other.

'who may be retrying a tale' is the wordplay.
'retrying a tale' anagrams to 'LITERARY AGENT'.
But, I'm not sure how the anagram is indicated.

'requiring' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for literary agent that I've seen before include "Bloomsbury businessman perhaps" , "Writer's representative" , "Representative for authors" , "Author's manager" , "One who deals with an author's affairs" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
