Crossword Genius

Whole unit, say, brought into Bury? (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

integer

'whole unit' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'say brought into bury?' is the wordplay.
'say' becomes 'eg'.
'brought into' indicates putting letters inside.
'bury?' becomes 'inter' ('inter' can be a synonym of 'bury').
'eg' inserted within 'inter' is 'INTEGER'.

(Other definitions for integer that I've seen before include "Result of counting" , "Say one" , "Perhaps 60,000" , "The whole thing" , "one or two, perhaps" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
