Crossword Genius

Wild activity with setter? Father’s lacking protein (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

enzyme

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'protein' is the definition.
(I know that enzyme is a type of protein)

'wild activity with setter? father's lacking' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'setter?' could be 'me' (the setter of the clue) and 'me' is present in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for enzyme that I've seen before include "Protein produced by cells that acts as a biochemical catalyst" , "One causing a reaction" , "Protein acting as a catalyst in biochemical reactions" , "E.g. pepsin" , "Protein substance acting as a catalyst" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
