Crossword Genius

Winning youth postured on dais (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

adonis

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'winning youth' is the definition.
'adonis' can be an answer for 'youth' (I have seen 'Handsome youth' mean 'adonis' so perhaps 'youth' could also mean 'adonis'). I'm not certain of the 'winning' bit.

'postured on dais' is the wordplay.
'on dais' anagrams to 'ADONIS'.
However, I am not clear how this is indicated.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for adonis that I've seen before include "Handsome youth - boy from Greek mythology" , "Handsome youth - said no (anag)" , "striking youth" , "Extremely handsome young man" , "Handsome Gk. youth" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
