Wishy-washy golf article (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

thing

'article' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'wishy-washy golf' is the wordplay.
'wishy-washy' becomes 'thin' (both can mean weak or feeble).
'golf' becomes 'g' (phonetic alphabet: alpha, bravo, charlie etc.).
'thin'+'g'='THING'

(Other definitions for thing that I've seen before include "Object, artefact" , "Article" , "Individual object" , "A creature" , "Individual unit" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
