Wordy US speaker, maybe, needs rev up (7)
I believe the answer is:
verbose
'wordy' is the definition.
(I know that wordy can be written as verbose)
'us speaker maybe needs rev up' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
an anagram of 'rev' is 'ver' which is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'bose' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for verbose that I've seen before include "Using more words than are needed" , "Boringly long-winded" , "Using too many words, too talkative" , "Using more words than necessary" , "not given to Trappist ways" .)
