Worked out how to chew the cud, indeed (7)
I believe the answer is:
deduced
'worked out' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'to chew the cud indeed' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
an anagram of 'cud' is 'duc' which is within the answer.
The remaining letters 'deed' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).
'how' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for deduced that I've seen before include "Worked out by reasoning" , "Concluded" , "Came to logical conclusion like Sherlock" , "Inferred" , "Arrived at by reasoning" .)
