Worker able to take pity on a saint! (6)
I believe the answer is:
typist
'worker' is the definition.
(typist is a kind of worker)
'able to take pity on a saint' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
an anagram of 'pity' is 'typi' which is located in the answer.
'saint' could be 'st' and 'st' is found in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for typist that I've seen before include "Old secretary" , "Operator of a machine that prints one character at a time" , "Forerunner of the word processor operator" , "Someone paid to copy using a keyboard" , "Person at keyboard" .)
