'holiday' can be an answer for 'leave' (I've seen this before). I am unsure of the 'home' bit.
'workless period when many' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'period' could be 'day' (day is a kind of period) and 'day' is found within the answer.
'many' could be 'l' and 'l' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'hoi' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
