Writing censored by editor taken to court (10)

I believe the answer is:
prosecuted
'taken to court' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both to do with social activities as well as being past participle verbs.
Maybe they are linked in a way I don't understand?
'writing censored by editor' is the wordplay.
'writing' becomes 'prose' (prose is ordinary writing as opposed to poetry).
'censored by' becomes 'cut' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'editor' becomes 'ed' (abbreviation).
'prose'+'cut'+'ed'='PROSECUTED'
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for prosecuted that I've seen before include "carried on" , "Summoned" .)
