Yankee has to consider carefully when there’s no parking over there (6)
I believe the answer is:
yonder
'over there' is the definition.
(archaic preposition meaning 'over there')
'yankee has to consider carefully when there's no parking' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'yankee' could be 'y' (phonetic alphabet: alpha, bravo, charlie etc.) and 'y' is found in the answer.
'when' could be 'on' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'on' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'der' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for yonder that I've seen before include "Over there, somewhat archaic" , "to place indicated" , "Over there (poetic)" , "Over there, a long time ago" , "At a distance but in sight" .)
