I cannot quite see how this works, but
an anagram of 'yelped' is 'deeply' which is within the answer.
'wound up' could be 'ended' (how things 'wind up' is how they end) and 'ended' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'off' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
