Crossword Genius

Young woman getting over stockholder? (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

lasso

'stockholder?' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'young woman getting over' is the wordplay.
'young woman' becomes 'lass' (informal term for a young woman).
'getting' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'over' becomes 'o' (cricket abbreviation).
'lass'+'o'='LASSO'

(Other definitions for lasso that I've seen before include "Looped rope used to catch cattle" , "Cow catcher" , "One may be caught by this" , "What cowboy uses" , "snare" .)

I've seen this clue in The Sunday Times and The Times.
