Crossword Genius

Comfortable spot according to Otto I in north-east (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

niche

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'comfortable spot' is the definition.
'niche' can be an answer for 'spot' (I have seen 'Suitable spot' mean 'niche' so perhaps 'spot' could also mean 'niche'). I am not sure about the 'comfortable' bit.

'otto i in north-east' is the wordplay.
'otto i' becomes 'ich' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'in' indicates putting letters inside.
'north east' becomes 'ne'.
'ich' inserted inside 'ne' is 'NICHE'.

'according to' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for niche that I've seen before include "A small recess or easy job" , "Particularly suitable position" , "market area for specialists" , "Suitable location" , "Small corner of e.g. market" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
