Content behind bars? (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

inside

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'behind bars?' is the definition.
(inside can mean in prison)

'content' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'content' could be 'side' (side is a kind of content) and 'side' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'in' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for inside that I've seen before include "Inner surface" , "serving porridge" , "Enid is (anag) - within" , "Middle" , "Internal" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
