Crossword Genius

End up, regularly, at terrible senior gatherings (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

reunions

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'terrible senior gatherings' is the definition.
'reunions' can be an answer for 'gatherings' (reunion is a kind of gathering). I'm not certain of the 'terrible senior' bit.

'end up regularly' is the wordplay.
'end' says to hollow out the word (remove centre letters) (I've seen 'ends' mean this).
'up' becomes 'raise' (I've seen this in another clue).
'regularly' becomes 'unions' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'raise' with its middle taken out is 're'.
're'+'unions'='REUNIONS'

'at' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for reunions that I've seen before include "Get-togethers of old friends, usually annual" , "Meetings of those who haven't met for a while" , "Get-togethers between former colleagues or friends" , "Annual get-togethers as for past pupils" , "At which people meet after a period of time apart" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
