Crossword Genius

Entered the office uninvited (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

usurped

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

This might be a double definition.

'entered the office' is the first definition.
Although both the answer and definition are past participle verbs, I don't see how they can define each other.

'uninvited' is the second definition.
Both the definition and answer are adjectives. Maybe they are linked in a way I don't understand?

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for usurped that I've seen before include "Taken by force" , "Took power illegally" , "Took power or position wrongfully" , "Seized and took control" , "Took control (by force)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish News.
