Ross

I believe the answer is:

pacifist

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'first opponent of war' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot understand how they can define each other.

'father about to meet one fellow' is the wordplay.
'father' becomes 'pa' (pa can mean dad or father).
'about' indicates putting letters inside.
'to meet' becomes 'cist' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'one' becomes 'i' (Roman numeral).
'fellow' becomes 'F' (abbreviation - of a society etc.).
'i'+'f'='if'
'cist' going around 'if' is 'cifist'.
'pa'+'cifist'='PACIFIST'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for pacifist that I've seen before include "non-belligerent" , "War opponent" , "One who's anti war" , "Shunner of violence" , "Someone believing all war is wrong" .)

I've seen this clue in The Daily Express.
