Crossword Genius

Of concern to the listener (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

otic

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'of concern to the listener' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'of concern to the' is the wordplay.
'of' becomes 'o''.
'concern' becomes 'ic' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'to' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other) (I've seen this in other clues).
'the' becomes 't' (the is pronounced as a 't' sound in some dialects).
'ic' put after 't' is 'tic'.
'o'+'tic'='OTIC'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for otic that I've seen before include "of lugs" , "about hearing" , "in relation to the listener" , "organ" , "of concern to the listener" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish News.
