Crossword Genius

Pope's support complete for untrue tale (5,6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

urban legend

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'tale' is the definition.
(I know that urban legend is a type of anecdote)

'pope's support complete for untrue' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'support' could be 'leg' (leg is a kind of support) and 'leg' is present in the answer.
'complete' could be 'end' (I've seen this before) and 'end' is present in the answer.
'pope' could be 'urban' (there have been several Pope Urbans) and 'urban' is located in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for urban legend that I've seen before include "popular myth" , "apocryphal" .)

I've seen this clue in The Everyman puzzle in The Observer.
