Crossword Genius

Sticks from two directions (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

wands

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'sticks' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both man-made objects as well as being plural nouns.
Maybe they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'two directions' is the wordplay.
'two directions' can mean two substitutions for 'direction'.
'direction' becomes 'W' (W is an example).
'direction' becomes 'ands' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'w'+'ands'='WANDS'

'from' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Another definition for wands that I've seen is " Things used at Hogwarts".)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Independent.
