Crossword Genius

Tear up about row with a Parisian making escape (2,1,6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

do a runner

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'escape' is the definition.

'tear up about row with a parisian' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'tear' could be 'run' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'run' is present in the answer.
'about' could be 'a' (abbreviation in Chambers) and 'a' is located in the answer.
'a' could be 'one' and 'one' is located in the remaining letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'making' is the link.

(Other definitions for do a runner that I've seen before include "Abscond (colloq.)" , "flee" , "Avoid paying" , "In slang, leave hastily - on the trot?" , "Zambezi cataract" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
