Ross

I believe the answer is:

ming

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'the ancient chinese' is the definition.
'ming' can be an answer for 'chinese' (Chinese dynasty). I am not certain of the 'the ancient' bit.

'charming took tea with it' is the wordplay.
'MING' is hidden in amongst the letters.
But, I am uncertain how this is indicated.

'being' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for ming that I've seen before include "Porcelain named after ancient Chinese dynasty" , "Mediaeval Chinese dynasty, ware" , "Chinese dynasty noted for procelain" , "Chinese dynasty 14th-17th centuries, or porcelain" , "Chinese dynasty - Flash Gordon's foe" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
