Crossword Genius

The sun making the Spanish get up (3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

sol

'the sun' is the definition.
(Latin for 'sun')

'the spanish get up' is the wordplay.
'the spanish' becomes 'los' ('the' in Spanish).
'get up' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'los' backwards is 'SOL'.

'making' is the link.

(Other definitions for sol that I've seen before include "Spanish and poetic sun" , "The sun in Spain" , "Note, old french coin" , "nearby star" , "The Sun (or Campbell?)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
