Venerable writer of a noted plot (4)
I believe the answer is:
bede
'venerable writer' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'a noted plot' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'plot' could be 'bed' (a plot of land) and 'bed' is found in the answer.
A single letter 'e' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'of' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for bede that I've seen before include "Anglo-Saxon historian" , "Venerable English historian, d. 735" , "Historian saint; Eliot's Adam" , "Early English historian" , "Adam ___, novel by George Eliot" .)
