A bit of money for father (3)
I believe the answer is:
pay
'a bit of money' is the definition.
'pay' can be an answer for 'money' (I've seen this in other clues). I'm unsure of the 'a bit of' bit.
'father' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'father' could be 'pa' (pa can mean dad or father) and 'pa' is found in the answer.
A single letter 'y' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'for' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for pay that I've seen before include "Give money in exchange for goods or services" , "Screw" , "Remunerate" , "Hand over money for" , "Reward for work" .)
