A way to cook young fish from the sea? (4-3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

deep-fry

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'a way to cook' is the definition.
(I know that deep-fry is a kind of fry)

'young fish from the sea?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'young' could be 'fry' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'fry' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'deep' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for deep-fry that I've seen before include "Fed pyre (anag.)" , "Cook (chips etc)" , "Cook in oil" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
