Crossword Genius

Accept capture where chess is played (4,2,5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

take on board

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'accept' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'capture where chess is played' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'capture' could be 'take' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'take' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'onboard' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for take on board that I've seen before include "what chess player will often do" , "Assimilate" , "Accept (new ideas)" , "opinion of directors" , "what press gang would do" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
