Added up to, when one had carried the whole lot inside (8)
I believe the answer is:
totalled
'added up' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'carried the whole lot inside' is the wordplay.
'carried' becomes 'toted' (toting is a kind of carrying).
'the whole lot' becomes 'all' (I've seen this in another clue).
'inside' is an insertion indicator.
'toted' placed around 'all' is 'TOTALLED'.
'to when one had' acts as a link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may be part of another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for totalled that I've seen before include "Summed" , "blown away" , "Determined the sum of" , "completely destroyed" , "Added together" .)
