'woman' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both people as well as being singular nouns.
Maybe there's a link between them I don't understand?

'an average person not some stay-at-home' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'an' could be 'i' (Roman numeral for one) and 'i' is found in the answer.
'person' could be 'heman' (he-man is a kind of person) and 'heman' is found in the answer.
'not' could be 'nt' (synonyms) and 'nt' is present in the answer.
'home' could be 'h' (abbreviation as used in sports fixtures) and 'h' is present in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
