Away from home, team is out of position (7)
I believe the answer is:
offside
'out of position' is the definition.
'offside' can be an answer for 'position' (I have seen 'Illegal position' mean 'offside' so perhaps 'position' could also mean 'offside'). I am unsure of the 'out of' bit.
'away from home team' is the wordplay.
'away from home' becomes 'off' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'team' becomes 'side' (both can mean a sports team).
'off'+'side'='OFFSIDE'
'is' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for offside that I've seen before include "Illegal position for soccer player" , "Dies off in illegal soccer position" , "(in the UK) a vehicle's right" , "Illegal position on soccer field" , "Illegal state in football" .)
