Back from the west of Russia with slightly-damaged spoons (7)
I believe the answer is:
sponsor
'back from the west of russia' is the definition.
'sponsor' can be an answer for 'back' (I've seen this in another clue). I'm unsure of the 'from the west of russia' bit.
'slightly-damaged spoons' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
an anagram of 'spoons' is 'sponso' which is present in the answer.
A single letter 'r' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'with' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for sponsor that I've seen before include "Provide funds for a project or person" , "Financial backer" , "One who backs" , "Provide finance for" , "A godfather or patron" .)
