Barrier of stakes, very common, created without front (8)
I believe the answer is:
stockade
'barrier of stakes' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'common created without front' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'common' could be 'stock' (similar in meaning) and 'stock' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ade' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'very' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for stockade that I've seen before include "defensive structure" , "Defensive or confining enclosure" , "Fortification" , "Cod steak consumed in enclosure as for military prisoners" , "Defensive barrier of upright posts" .)
