Crossword Genius

Blends from the Orient (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

teas

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'blends' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are plural nouns, I don't understand how they can define each other.

'the orient' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'orient' could be 'e' and 'e' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'tas' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

'from' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for teas that I've seen before include "Beverage made by steeping leaves in water" , "Hot drinks" , "Afternoon meals" , "Beverages from leaves" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
