Bloke died in contract dictated (8)
I believe the answer is:
demanded
'dictated' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'bloke died in contract' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'bloke' could be 'man' (informal term for a man) and 'man' is found in the answer.
'died' could be 'd' (abbreviation next to the year of someone's death) and 'd' is located in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for demanded that I've seen before include "Requested peremptorily - won't take no for an answer" , "Requested imperiously as if by right" , "Requested forcefully" , "Dictated" , "Called for" .)
