Crossword Genius

Capital aped features seen in sculpture (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

budapest

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'capital' is the definition.
(Budapest is an example)

'aped features seen in sculpture' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
an anagram of 'aped' is 'dape' which is present in the answer.
'sculpture' could be 'bust' (bust is a kind of sculpture) and 'bust' is found within the remaining letters.
This accounts for all the letters.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for budapest that I've seen before include "Hungary's capital" , "Hungarian capital" , "Put beads in the European city" , "Capital of Hungary" , "city of Europe" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
