Carpet salesman set off without an itinerary (7)
I believe the answer is:
reprove
'carpet' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'salesman set off without an itinerary' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'salesman' could be 'rep' (sales rep) and 'rep' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'rove' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for reprove that I've seen before include "carpet" , "tick off" , "To remonstrate" , "Scold" , "Criticise" .)
