Carrier hurried into back street to get a drink (11)
I believe the answer is:
transporter
'carrier' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'back street to get a drink' is the wordplay.
'back street' becomes 'trans' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'to get' says to put letters next to each other.
'a drink' becomes 'porter' (porter is a kind of drink).
'trans'+'porter'='TRANSPORTER'
'hurried into' acts as a link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may be part of another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for transporter that I've seen before include "Large vehicle carrying, eg, cars" , "one giving rise to strong emotion?" , "HGV" , "Freight vehicle" , "See 10" .)
