Crossword Genius

Cast out and about with musical, mostly touring (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

evict

'cast out' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'about with musical mostly touring' is the wordplay.
'about with' becomes 'c' (I've seen this in other clues).
'musical' becomes 'evita' (Andrew Lloyd Webber musical).
'mostly' means to remove the last letter.
'touring' means one lot of letters goes inside another (touring can mean going round).
'evita' with its final letter taken off is 'evit'.
'c' placed into 'evit' is 'EVICT'.

'and' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for evict that I've seen before include "Remove form house for non-payment" , "Throw from the premises" , "Expel from residence" , "Turf out" , "Remove from a residence" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
