Caught a cold and real trouble set in (8)
I believe the answer is:
collared
'caught a cold' is the definition.
'collared' can be an answer for 'caught' (I've seen this before). I am not certain of the 'a cold' bit.
'real trouble set in' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
an anagram of 'real' is 'lare' which is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'cold' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'and' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for collared that I've seen before include "Caught - variety of dove" , "Seized" , "like certain doves" , "like some doves and peccaries" , "Captured" .)
