Chaps caught in foul deed are corrected (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

emended

'are corrected' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'chaps caught in foul deed' is the wordplay.
'chaps' becomes 'men' (chap can mean a man).
'caught in' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'foul' indicates an anagram.
'deed' is an anagram of 'eded'.
'men' put within 'eded' is 'EMENDED'.

(Other definitions for emended that I've seen before include "did some editing" , "Edited" , "Refined" , "Altered" , "Acted like editors" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph and The Globe and Mail.
