Cherish wonderfully English cheese (8)
I believe the answer is:
cheshire
'english cheese' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'cherish wonderfully' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
an anagram of 'cherish' is 'cheshir' which is located in the answer.
A single letter 'e' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for cheshire that I've seen before include "division in England" , "Cat with broad smile, from English county" , "English cheese or cat" , "Crumbly cheese from northwest England" , "Crumbly cheese from English county" .)
