Crossword Genius

Cleaner beginning to move ornament (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

charm

'ornament' is the definition.
(I have seen 'small ornament' mean 'charm' so perhaps 'ornament' could also mean 'charm')

'cleaner beginning to move' is the wordplay.
'cleaner' becomes 'char' (charwoman is a type of cleaner).
'beginning to' says to take the initial letters.
The first letter of 'move' is 'm'.
'char'+'m'='CHARM'

(Other definitions for charm that I've seen before include "Enchant" , "For example, olde-worlde character" , "Allure" , "Beguile" , "a delightful feature" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
