'continue' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are verbs in their base form, I cannot see how one could define the other.

'devouring some algebra in famous english college' is the wordplay.
'devouring' indicates putting letters inside.
'some' becomes 'a'.
'algebra in famous english college' becomes 'eton' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'a' put inside 'eton' is 'EAT ON'.
