Perhaps you can see an association between them that I don't see?
'not starting over' is the wordplay.
'not starting' becomes 'ext' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'over' becomes 'ended' (over can mean finished or ended).
'ext'+'ended'='EXTENDED'
