Crossword Genius

Co-operate, putting drama before dance (4,4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

play ball

'co-operate' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'drama before dance' is the wordplay.
'drama' becomes 'play' ('play' can be a synonym of 'drama').
'before' says to put letters next to each other.
'dance' becomes 'ball' (ball is a kind of dance).
'play'+'ball'='PLAY BALL'

'putting' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for play ball that I've seen before include "Be cooperative" , "perform service in court" , "Agree to comply with someone else's rules" , "go along" , "Most boys love to" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
