I believe the answer is:

nocturne

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'piece of music' is the definition.
(nocturne is a kind of piece of music)

'criticise performer talking about' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'performer' could be 'turn' ('turn' can mean a performer as well as their act) and 'turn' is present in the answer.
'about' could be 'c' (abbreviation for circa) and 'c' is located in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for nocturne that I've seen before include "Dark scene" , "Dreamy piano peace popularised by Chopin" , "Short romantic piece of music - in the night?" , "Dreamy instrument music" , "Dreamy night music" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
