Cut the charge for salad food (3)
![Ross](/clue/static/ross-mug.min.png)
I believe the answer is:
cos
'salad food' is the definition.
'cos' can be an answer for 'food' (I have seen 'healthy food' mean 'cos' so perhaps 'food' could also mean 'cos'). I am not certain of the 'salad' bit.
'cut the charge' is the wordplay.
'cut' means to remove the last letter.
'the charge' becomes 'cost' (I've seen this before).
'cost' with its last letter taken off is 'COS'.
'for' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for cos that I've seen before include "Kind of lettuce in microcosm" , "something of a salad" , "Island in Mediterranean" , "Chief of Staff" , "naturally having longer leaves than most" .)
